How to Install Mods in KCD2
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 supports mods two main ways — the official Steam Workshop (one click) and manual install into a Mods folder. Here's how each works, plus the few things that trip people up.
1. The easy way: Steam Workshop
KCD2 has official Steam Workshop support. On a mod's Workshop page, just press Subscribe. Steam downloads the mod and enables it the next time the game launches — and keeps it updated automatically when the author releases a new version.
Workshop note: Workshop mods are typically prioritized over manually placed files when both target the same thing. If a mod behaves unexpectedly, check whether another mod is overriding it.
2. The manual way: Mods folder + mod.manifest
Some mods (especially Nexus downloads) are installed manually. The process is straightforward:
- Find your KCD2 install folder (in Steam: right-click the game → Manage → Browse local files).
- Create a folder named
Modsin the game's root directory if one doesn't already exist. - Extract the downloaded mod into its own subfolder inside
Mods. - Make sure the mod folder contains a
mod.manifestfile and any.pakfiles it ships with. - Launch the game. The mod should load automatically.
Important: For manually installed mods, the mod.manifest file matters. Loose files that aren't inside a .pak may not be read unless the mod provides the right structure — follow the author's install instructions for each mod.
3. Enabling the dev-mode console (optional)
Cheat and console mods usually need the game's built-in dev mode. Add the -devmode flag to the game's launch options:
In Steam, right-click KCD2 → Properties → General → Launch Options, and type -devmode. Then launch the game and press the tilde key (~) to open the console.
4. Load order and conflicts
KCD2 doesn't have a script-extender style of load order like some other games. Files in the Mods folder load roughly in alphabetical order, and you can use a mod_order.txt file to set a custom order if two mods conflict. When in doubt, install conflicting mods one at a time to see which causes a problem.
5. Do mods disable achievements?
Based on player reports, installing mods does not disable achievements in KCD2. That said, official policies can change, and some heavily-modded setups behave unexpectedly — so it's worth checking the mod author's notes if you care about a specific achievement run.
Heads up: this is community-reported and not an official Warhorse guarantee. If a mod is marked high-risk for your save, always back up your save files first.
6. Where to get mods safely
Only download KCD2 mods from the official Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods pages for the game. Random third-party rehost sites are a common source of outdated files and malware. If a site asks you to download a "special installer" or disables your ad blocker before showing a file, close it.
