Steam Workshop vs Manual Install

Both methods are official and safe for KCD2. The right choice depends on whether you want automatic updates or finer control.

Steam Workshop

  • + One-click subscribe
  • + Auto-updates when author ships a fix
  • + Easy to unsubscribe to remove
  • + Usually prioritized over manual files
  • − Only for mods hosted on Workshop

Manual (Mods folder)

  • + Works for Nexus and other downloads
  • + Full control over version and files
  • + Can pin a specific mod version
  • − No auto-update — you update by hand
  • − Must place the mod.manifest / .pak correctly

Quick rule of thumb

If a mod is on the Workshop and you just want it to work — subscribe. If you're testing an older version, tweaking files, or the mod is only on Nexus — install manually. Many players use a mix of both.
